JPMORGAN CIO WANTS TO TEACH YOU ABOUT THE EURO DEBT CRISIS… WITH LEGOS

What's weirder: that JPMorgan's Chief Investment Officer released a Lego-themed diagram explaining the European debt crisis… or that he was dead serious when he did it?

But that's exactly Michael Cembalest's angle, it seems. And — don't worry — the diagram only employs a small handful of awkward European national stereotypes to get its point across.

The diagram, which we found over on Felix Salmon's blog, thankfully includes a key, explaining what each lego character's function is in this crazypants educational tool.

We've got the "blue-and-white sailor boy," which, Cembalest notes is "Finland. Obvs." The fisherman in orange overalls, meant to depict Iceland. The artists, which represent France. Oh! And "the toreador in a floppy hat, and the F1 driver with his helmet, [meant to] represent Spain, Italy." Oh my.

Not to be overlooked, however, are the storm troopers, which are meant to be representative of "the EU Commission and Euro Group Finance Ministers." Please, Cembalest, don't hold back on your true feelings.

As Salmon points out in his writeup of the diagram, the ridiculousness of the it is, apparently, meant to prove a point. If the Euro crisis is going to be silly, well, then, gosh darnit, Cembalest says he wants his explanation of it to be silly, too:

"If today's diorama analysis borders on the absurd, so does maintaining the fiction that accumulation of massive public and private sector claims in Europe can somehow be engineered away."
